My client is a British luxury fashion brand famous for heritage fashion, producing iconic trench coats, ready-to-wear, and fashion accessories.

My client was recently acquired by an international luxury group and the London Office is looking to introduce the key role of European Sales Director, responsible for both Retail and Wholesale divisions.

Responsible for the existing retail estate and wholesale division, the new European Sales Director must be strong in driving business development strategy in both the UK and Europe. This will include identifying, proposing and overseeing new retail store openings, identifying new wholesale territories, working with distributors and developing new wholesale markets.

In the longer term this role will be responsible for the sales, operations and fulfillment for the Europe and Americas Ecommerce platform.

Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate will secure a role which is both challenging and rewarding. This role is suitable for an individual who is self-motivated, used to working independently and used to motivating and leading growing teams. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development and implementation of sales and business development strategy;
  • Identifying and accessing valuable markets across both retail and wholesale;
  • Identifying new wholesale customers and forming working relationships with premier buyers in luxury fashion;
  • Identifying, proposing and overseeing new retail store openings in the UK and Europe;
  • Develop high performance retail and wholesale sales and operations teams to effectively achieve business objectives;
  • Working with Head of Finance, accurately forecasting monthly, quarterly and annual sales and forming sales plans for retail and wholesale, maximising profitability;
  • Working with Head of Merchandising to implement option plans, price point plans, and strategy for season;
  • Responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual sales performance and optimising profit in Retail and Wholesale;
  • Provide regular guidance and leadership to retail and wholesale teams through effective communication of objectives, hands-on coaching, and team development;
  • Manage spending budgets for sales activities (including trade shows, store openings, etc.);
  • Work effectively with Line Managers to design and execute strategic sales initiatives;
  • Work effectively with Marketing & Digital Director to identify, plan and successfully execute marketing and PR activities that will support business objectives;
  • Ensure Design and Product Development are informed of market intelligence and preferred requirements from the retail and wholesale markets;
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic corporate and end-user relationships;
  • Negotiate agreements where required;
  • Negotiate and control pricing agreements and strategies;
    Serving as a business representative at major industry events, conferences, trade shows, and expositions;

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business preferred;
  • Relevant Retail & Wholesale sales development experience with at least 4-5 years recent experience managing business development and sales and operations teams;

Leadership Skills:

  • A solid understanding of the luxury retail and wholesale markets; including trends, locations, products, and players;
  • Business aptitude in developing and exploiting new business opportunities;
  • Experience and success in developing and retaining high performance teams;
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve sales plans;
  • Proven business analysis and judgment with the ability to proactively manage business to meet objectives;
  • Strategy development, project management, problem solving, and change management skills;
  • Solid understanding of luxury retail and wholesale markets and regulatory requirements and issues;
  • Exceptional negotiation skills;
  • Ability to build positive working relationships, both internally and externally;
  • Ability to effectively present information to all levels;
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Business related computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Experience in negotiations with executive administration levels, i.e., CFO,
  • CIO, CEO, CMO.
